Sudeste
2006
Manantiales, Uruguay
Constructed Area:
800 m2
Sudeste was designed as a modern architecture project with sober lines and natural materials whose main premise was to achieve the presence of the sea in all the house’s cardinal points. Located in a privileged setting, it boasts panoramic views of the bay of Punta Piedras. As usual, Gomez places in the foreground the use of materials and their natural colors.
The front of the house resembles a majestic ship featuring an enormous door and large windows that allow light to enter and protect the sliding aluminium walls, which virtually eliminate the visual boundary between indoors and outdoors.
The 800-square-metre house has an inverted design articulated on three levels: the private area is located on the first floor, the communal areas on the upper floor and finally the service area on the lowest level, near the garage.
The leitmotif of the materials is the natural setting: granite quarried just 15 km from the house, along with reinforced concrete and ipe and cedrine woods. The choice of white inside illuminates the entire house, which masterfully displays a harmonious balance between the coolness of the industrial elements and the comfort conveyed by plants in a true merger of prefabricated elements and natural materials.
